At Van Wyk, we pay our drivers on a percentage basis which, according to a Stay Metrics survey of over 4,000 drivers, is preferred over mileage and hourly pay packages. While there are many benefits to percentage-based pay, including immediate pay increases whenever freight rates go up, pay for deadhead/empty miles has always been a challenge. In addition to receiving premium revenue-based pay on every loaded mile, beginning August 1st Van Wyk drivers will also receive 30 CPM for empty miles.
With freight rates at all-time highs, Van Wyk drivers have already seen a 3-4+ CPM pay increase over last year. This change in deadhead pay could add another $5,000+ per driver per year to an already premium pay package.
